Barton Peveril Sixth Form College is a thriving Sixth Form College located in Hampshire that’s well known for its progressive application of technology. Shortlisted for a TES Award for ‘outstanding use of technology’ & winner of the FE College of the Year in the Edufuturists Awards in 2020 the college is committed to remaining in the vanguard of progressive practice in the application of technology that has impact.
In 2020 the college set out to deploy a leading communications platform. The requirement was to deliver a unified cloud based communications solution aligned to its progressive communications needs. Google Voice was the preferred option for the approximately 170 staff & several thousand students as its flexibility & ease of use enabled the college to achieve impact fast & without disruption.
C-Learning Executive Chairman, Jamie Smith, commented “Google Voice is the ideal telephony technology for any institution using Google G Suite for Education. I’ve always believed that technology should do just two things; be simple to use & make life better, & Google Voice achieves both. I’ve deployed many telephony solutions over the years & they used to be complex & somewhat expensive projects but now with Google Voice it’s easy, inexpensive & impactful immediately.
All staff have a dedicated number to their primary contact details in Google Voice which are linked to their Google accounts integrating perfectly with the wider Google for Education productivity platform.
As Google Voice is a cloud based technology, it is accessible via any mobile phone, laptop or headset making it easy to be able to answer calls in any location. The College confirmed that implementing Google voice was so quick & easy, it took just 30 minutes to deploy & has enabled staff & students to keep in touch easily.
IT Manager at the college Peter Horner said “Google Voice has supported the College’s Digital Strategy to enhance the quality of students’ learning experience empowering learners & supporting self directed learning in new ways with easier communication with college staff.”
